MultiChoice Talent Factory
Sellina Nyirenda, the Regional Head of Corporate Affairs for MultiChoice Africa Holdings in Southern Africa, announced yesterday the latest developments within the Multichoice Talent Factory (MTF), which is currently embarking on its fifth cohort.
Nyirenda, hailing from Zambia and stationed in Lusaka, highlighted MTF's transformative impact on the industry through its comprehensive training of young filmmakers. She emphasized its role in paving professional pathways within the film and TV sector, while also empowering African talents to produce culturally relevant content for local audiences.
"We've witnessed numerous success stories. Our alumni are making remarkable strides, elevating African narratives and crafting authentic cinematic experiences," Nyirenda remarked.
Regarding the recent cohort, which now includes two representatives from Malawi, Nyirenda mentioned their arrival in Lusaka to commence their 12-month training program.
"We're particularly proud of the progress made in Malawi. Our alumnus, Brian Magombo, is scheduled to attend the New York Film Academy in the USA later this year. His outstanding performance earned him an eight-week internship at the Academy," Nyirenda shared. "This presents a significant opportunity as we facilitate the exchange of knowledge, allowing promising African talent to learn from industry leaders and apply their expertise back home."
Magombo and Sarah Mngwaluko, both MTF graduates from November last year, expressed their gratitude for the program's immersive learning experience under the guidance of industry experts from South Africa, the USA, and Zambia.
"I specialized in sound and production design, and through the program, I had the opportunity to contribute to two short films and two upcoming feature films. These skills are invaluable for Malawi, and I'm eager to share them," Mngwaluko stated.
Magombo, anticipating his journey to the USA, reflected on the comprehensive learning journey over the past year.
"It wasn't just theoretical; we were actively engaged in practical exercises. I had the privilege of directing two films and serving as director of photography on two others. Additionally, we had the chance to contribute to major shows such as Mpali and Zuba," Magombo shared enthusiastically.
Some positive development from the entertainment landscape there . Well done multchoice
