Nde'feyo got a thumbs up in Blantyre
A remarkable crowd gathered for the Nde’feyo Entertainment Legacy celebration held at Club 24/7 in Blantyre, extending well into the early hours of Sunday. The event lived up to its reputation, evoking nostalgia among revelers, predominantly young, for the heyday of Nde’feyo Entertainment under the leadership of Khumbo Kabuzi Munthali and Ken Zizwa Limwame, now residing in the United States of America (USA).
Though absent, the spirit of Khumbo Kabuzi Munthali and Ken
Zizwa Limwame loomed large over the festivities, barely a week after a similar
gathering at Illusionz in Lilongwe. Guided by the emcee, Blak Jak, the
celebration spared no effort in presenting a diverse lineup of artists who once
graced Nde’feyo Entertainment's roster, including Maskal, currently based in
the USA, and solo acts Onesimus and Piksy, who have since carved their own
paths.
The event also welcomed the presence of other luminaries
such as the 'Machenje' sensation Black Nina, producer Sispence, and key members
of Black Missionaries—keyboardist and vocalist Chizondi Fumulani and lead
vocalist Anjiru Fumulani.
Reggae dancehall maestro Trumel opened the proceedings,
breaking his recent silence with a performance that underscored his enduring
relevance in the music scene. Trumel, hinting at forthcoming projects, set the
stage for Bucci, whose performance steadily built momentum, culminating in a
resounding crescendo.
Yet, it was the arrival of Onesimus, fondly known as
African Butter, that electrified the audience. Accompanied by a live band,
Onesimus kicked off with beloved classics like the soulful ballad 'Ndamusowa,'
originally released under his former moniker Armstrong. Engaging effortlessly
with the crowd, he led impromptu sing-alongs and even invited fans onstage to
showcase their dance moves.
The artist proceeded to deliver a repertoire of hits
including 'Panado' and 'Mr. Nobody.' Reflecting on his journey, Onesimus
expressed gratitude to Nde’feyo Entertainment for organizing the legacy show,
choosing to commence with his older material before transitioning to recent
releases.
"We've come a
long way, and I commend Nde’feyo Entertainment for preserving this legacy.
That's why I began with my earlier songs, before delving into the newer ones.
Thank you all for joining us tonight," remarked Onesimus, who recently
unveiled his Extended Playlist (EP) titled 'I am Strong'.
Nde'feyo was a revelation of music industry in Malawi. It managed to bring out the best in those artists under it's record label, e.g Maskal, Armstrong, Pixy and Namadingo who was doing gospel by then.
